Welcome to Westmount

Westmount has spent generations becoming one of Edmonton’s most complete urban neighbourhoods.

Its residential streets hold Craftsman houses, brick Foursquares, postwar homes, contemporary infill and established apartment buildings beneath a mature tree canopy. Its commercial spine, 124 Street, carries independent restaurants, galleries, theatres, boutiques, professional services and seasonal markets. Schools, parks, playgrounds, skating rinks, a community fitness club and access to Groat Ravine place everyday life close to home.

Westmount sits immediately west of downtown Edmonton. The community is generally bounded by Groat Road, 111 Avenue, 121 Street and Stony Plain Road, with the historic Groat Estate area continuing south of Stony Plain Road between Groat Road and 124 Street.

WESTMOUNT AT A GLANCE

MARKETS, FESTIVALS AND STREET LIFE

The 124 Grand Market began in 2012 and has become an established part of Edmonton’s public-market scene. Its 124 Street locations host seasonal Thursday and Sunday markets with local produce, prepared food, baking, art, design, beer and small independent vendors.

The annual All Is Bright winter festival brings live music, light installations, food, performances and business activations to the district each November. The event uses Helen Nolan Park and surrounding blocks of 124 Street as a community gathering space.

Gallery walks, mural programming, business events and neighbourhood festivals continue the role 124 Street has played since the streetcar era: the place where Westmount and the surrounding central neighbourhoods meet.

Why we Love Westmount

Iconic Communities

Established residential architecture

Westmount contains one of Edmonton’s most significant concentrations of pre-First World War houses, including strong examples of Craftsman and Foursquare design. Many streets retain the original relationship between houses, front verandahs, continuous sidewalks, mature boulevards, deep lots and rear-lane parking.

An actual main street

The 124 Street & Area Business Improvement Area extends from Jasper Avenue north to 111 Avenue. Restaurants, cafés, galleries, shops, theatres, health services and professional offices give the district a genuine daily role in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Parks woven through the community

Westmount includes neighbourhood playgrounds, a spray park, community skating facilities, an off-leash area, basketball courts, picnic spaces, a community garden and access toward Groat Ravine and Edmonton’s river valley trail system.

Schools close to home

Westglen School serves Kindergarten through Grade 6 within Westmount. Westmount School serves Grades 7 through 9 nearby, and Ross Sheppard provides extensive senior-high programming just north of the community.

Recreation at several scales

The community operates the Westmount Fitness Club, while the new Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre adds a 50-metre pool, running track, indoor cycling track, courts, fitness spaces, bouldering, studios and an indoor playground nearby.
